It is no easy task to let go of old ways of thinking and believing! That is because our experiences, emotions, and even our ancestry wires our neural pathways so we continually recreate past experiences and feel uncomfortable with new ones.
It is necessary to examine our limiting thoughts, feelings, and beliefs from time to time – especially when we are feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or without joy. It is the underlying old beliefs and emotions that are unconsciously creating your life. These old beliefs and such do take up space in you and can reduce your capacity to feel connected, have clarity, or to trust. They take up space in your life that can limit new, wonderful things happening no matter how hard you try.
Observing how you feel and getting clear on what you want more/less of in your life can help you unpack some of this, but some of it remains in your subconscious making awareness difficult. There are a couple of ways to help yourself move beyond your subconscious limitations:
1) Observe your feelings and let them process. don’t stuff them down, avoid, or dismiss them – but don’t get stuck in them either. Allowing your feelings to process can shift your perception, reduce pain and symptoms in your body, and help you feel unstuck.
2) Find someone to help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Someone who can help you identify and/or release old limiting patterns. That someone may be you through regular mindful/meditation practices (which helps you process emotions and let go of old stuff!) or it may be a coach or therapist or healer or friend. The important thing is that you don’t have to do it all alone.
